We are deeply saddened by the passing of His Excellency, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, the former Governor of Oyo State, who passed yesterday, 6th of April 2025, just days shy of his 90th birthday. On behalf of Ọmọ Aj'Orosun Club, Ibadan, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Oyo State, and the entire Ibadan community.

A LIFE OF SERVICE AND DEDICATION:

Dr. Olunloyo's remarkable journey was marked by his commitment to excellence and service. He served as the Governor of Oyo State from October 1983 to December 1983 and later became a chieftain in the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State. His leadership and vision continue to inspire many. As a distinguished mathematician and engineer, he held notable positions, including the first Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and the pioneer Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE:

Dr. Olunloyo's academic achievements are a testament to his exceptional brilliance. He was one of the 10 students who were given scholarships out of the 2,002 students who applied to Government College, Ibadan, in 1947. Remarkably, he completed his Higher School Certificate in three months and gained admission to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of St Andrews, where he graduated with First Class honors at age 26. His academic prowess earned him a Ph.D. from St. Andrews University in 1961, with a thesis on the Numerical Determination of the Solutions of Eigenvalue Problems of the Sturm–Liouville Type.

POLITICAL CAREER AND ACHIEVEMENTS:

Dr. Olunloyo's political career was equally impressive. He became a commissioner at just 27 years old, serving as the Commissioner for Economic Development for the Western Region in 1962. He held various other positions, including Commissioner for Community Development, Education, and Chieftaincy Affairs. His leadership skills and vision earned him the respect of his peers and the people of Oyo State.

CONDOLENCE MESSAGES:

Our heartfelt condolences go out to:

- The Widow and Children: May they find solace in the memories of Dr. Olunloyo's life and legacy.

- Ibadan Indigenes and the Oyo State Community: We mourn the loss of a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the state's progress.

- His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde: As the incumbent Governor of Oyo State, we appreciate your leadership and commitment to honoring Dr. Olunloyo's legacy.

CELEBRATING A LEGACY:

Dr. Olunloyo's achievements are a testament to his character and dedication. His traditional titles, Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, reflect his respected position in his community. We take comfort in the knowledge that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

Signed,
