An Open Letter || "Conduct our Constituency By-Election, We are being shortchanged" - Oyo Governor's S.A on Ibadan North Federal Constituency cries out to INEC, Presidency

As the Special Assistant to the Oyo State Governor on Ibadan North Federal Constituency, I am compelled to address the prolonged vacancy in our representation at the National Assembly's Green Chamber. Since the untimely demise of Hon. Musiliu Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban) in mid-2024, our constituency has been denied its rightful voice and benefits.


It's disheartening that despite the clear provisions of the electoral law, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacant seat. This oversight has left our constituency shortchanged, deprived of the dividends of democracy meant for our area.


I urge INEC, under its leadership, to expedite action on conducting a bye-election to restore our representation. I also call on the Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, His Excellency Senator Simon Lalong, to leverage his position to facilitate a prompt resolution. As a former Governor of Plateau State, I am sure he knows the imperativeness in ensuring that a constituency's interests are well represented.


Furthermore, I appeal to the Federal Government to ensure that the democratic process is upheld, and our constituency's rights are protected. I request that civil society organizations and the media join us in demanding that INEC takes immediate action to fill the vacant seat and restore our representation at the National Assembly.


It's imperative that we collectively advocate for the rights of Ibadan North Federal Constituency to quality representation at the federal level. We deserve to have our voices heard and our interests represented in the National Assembly.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a driver, allegedly passing through a one-way street, was pursued by police officers. The foremost monarch, who ascended the throne in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, after spending a year on the throne.  The demise of Oba Olakulehin, born July 5, 1935, is coming barely two days after celebrating his 90th birthday.  Oba Olakulehin received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor Engr.
