Breaking News: Fire Outbreak in Yemetu, Ibadan || Ibadan North Council Boss, Hon. Olufade, Lawmaker, Hon. Comforter, PDP Vice Chairman Visit Scene as 15 Shops Are Razed

Published by Samuel Toba-Olumide

Tragedy struck in the early hours of today, Saturday May 10th, 2025, at the POWA Shops, sited at The Police Barracks, Yemetu, Ibadan, as a devastating fire razed nearly 15 shops to the ground, destroying property and livelihoods. Preliminary reports suggest the fire was caused by an electrical surge, possibly linked to an overvoltage incident from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), though official investigations are still ongoing.

In a swift response, PDP Vice Chairman Alhaji Mustapha led a high-level delegation to the scene. He was accompanied by Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Comforter, who represents Ibadan North Constituency 1–6 at the Oyo State House of Assembly; and members of the PDP Apex Team.

The officials met with affected traders, expressed sympathy, and pledged support for both immediate relief and long-term recovery. Hon. Comforter emphasized the need for urgent investment in electrical safety and infrastructure in public housing areas. Hon. Olufade assured victims that the local government would mobilize resources to support affected families and prevent future occurrences.

This visit reflects a coordinated leadership effort and a commitment to safeguarding lives and livelihoods across Ibadan North.
