Ibadan, Oyo State - A somber mood has engulfed the Alakia-Welfare-Airport Ibadan community following a tragic incident on Airport Road, Alakia, where a 17-year-old student lost his life in a hail of bullets fired by police officers.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a driver, allegedly passing through a one-way street, was pursued by police officers. In the ensuing chase, the officers opened fire, and a stray bullet struck another vehicle carrying the teenager, who was on his way to school to sit for a WAEC exam.

BishopWeeMedia gathered that the victim, a twin (whose twin brother was also in the car with him), was rushed to Welfare Hospital, where oxygen was administered before being transferred to University College Hospital (UCH). Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival at UCH, and his body was later taken to the Oyo State Secretariat.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with many people gathering, including prominent figures like Oriyomi Hamzat. The situation escalated when police officers attempted to move their van from the Hospital Premises, leading to protests and further violence where the Police had to use teargas and firing into the air to disperse the angry people who gathered.
"It was a horrific scene. The police officers were reckless and irresponsible. They opened fire without regard for human life," said an eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous.
Another witness, Mrs. Omolola Adeyemi, expressed outrage over the incident. "How can police officers shoot at a car and kill an innocent teenager? The driver may have made a mistake, but that didn't warrant the use of lethal force as another car was the victim of the gunshot. It's a tragedy, and those responsible must be held accountable."
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation of police brutality, with many calling for greater accountability and restraint in the use of force. As investigations into the incident continue, the community remains shaken, and the family of the deceased mourns the loss of their loved one.
