Ibadan North Residents Slam APC, Murphy Olatunji Over Sachet Alcohol Campaign Gift

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate for the forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Adewale Murphy Olatunji, have come under heavy criticism after the party allegedly began distributing sachet alcohol to residents as part of its campaign souvenirs.

The move, which has sparked outrage among community members and civic groups, is being described as “an insult to the sensibilities of Ibadan North residents” and a poor reflection of the constituency’s values. Critics argue that the choice of sachet alcohol as a political gift is not only morally questionable but also socially irresponsible, given the health risks and the ongoing concerns about alcohol abuse in the community.

“Of all the possible items to distribute during a campaign, sachet alcohol should not be one,” a concerned resident remarked. “It doesn’t represent the dignity and culture of Ibadan North people, and it’s disappointing that our leaders think this is acceptable.”

Analysts suggest the move could backfire on the APC campaign, as many voters see it as a symbol of the party’s disregard for the moral and health standards of the electorate.

The incident has reignited debates over the kind of leadership APC and Adewale Murphy Olatunji are offering, with some questioning whether such decisions reflect the quality of representation the constituency deserves.
