L.G AUTONOMY AND BRILLIANCE: PASTOR ODERAJO AIRS HIS MIND ON THE ISSUE

Pastor Lanre Ishola Oderajo, the Chief of Staff, Ibadan North Local Government CouncilA leader of the People's Democratic Party in Ibadan North Local Government who is also the current Chief of Staff to the Local Government Chairman, Pastor Lanre Oderajo has thrown his cap into the discussion of the Local Government Councils and the Autonomy that has allegedly been begrudged them.
In a post signed by the Honourable Chief of Staff he wrote:
AUTONOMY & BRILLIANCE
People are clamouring for LG autonomy as if that's the only solution for sustainable development at the grassroot
No one is independent but inter-depent. If LG has no supervising arm, an irrascible chairman can unilaterally sack the management team and heaven won't fall
In the early 90s when LG councils were autonomous, I have been privileged to see a LG chairman warning his governor. The LG chairman was from NRC while the governor was from SDP.. He politely warned "Your Excellecy, I think we need to jawjaw on that idea of yours regarding my LG. Anything short of that will lead to legal redress" The governor patted him with "Later...."
Give autonomy to the LG, and the Ministry of Local Government will go comatose.
What LG needs is financial autonomy. Give them their money but let their financial programmes be under the watch of the State Government. There must be governor's approval before certain amount of money can be spent
Even, an Alaafin has Oyomesis to checkmate his actions. Any establishment without an organ of checks and balances will crumble without notice.
I so much love Governor Seyi Makinde's brilliance. Not that he abhors LG autonomy. Nothing is wrong with the idea but there must be an organ to checkmate any overzealous spending officer of the LG
I always bow down for superior argument.
