The Governing Council Chairman of the Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology (OYSCOHEST), Eleyele, Ibadan, Rt. Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan, popularly known as Hon. AKORO, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Provost, Pharmacist Mrs. Oluyemisi Oyewo, and other awardees following the formal inauguration of the College’s Red Cross Society Detachment.

In a statement issued after the well-attended ceremony, Hon. AKORO, a former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and immediate past Chairman of the 3SC Football Team, Ibadan, described the event as “a bold and inspiring step in advancing the culture of humanitarian service among our students.”

The event, held in the College Hall, saw the official inauguration of the OYSCOHEST Red Cross Detachment, with the Provost, Pharmacist Mrs. Oluyemisi Oyewo, decorated as Patron. The Registrar, Mrs. Dupe Ayoola, was honoured as Deputy Patron, while Mrs. Temitope Awotunde, Head of the Department of Community Health, was appointed Staff Adviser.

Commending the leadership of the College, Hon. AKORO stated: “It is a moment of pride to witness our great institution further strengthen its commitment to community service, leadership, and civic responsibility through the Red Cross Society. I warmly congratulate our Provost, Mrs. Oyewo, whose dedication continues to inspire excellence.”

He also applauded the Registrar and the newly appointed Staff Adviser for their recognition and commitment, urging them to continue to uphold the values of compassion and service that the Red Cross embodies.

Hon. AKORO praised the students of the Red Cross Detachment for taking the oath to serve humanity, emphasizing the importance of such a commitment in today’s world.

“To the students who have chosen this noble path, I say well done. You have chosen to stand for life, hope, and service. May this be the beginning of a meaningful journey of impact,” he added.

The inauguration featured key activities including oath-taking by members of the Detachment, award presentations to the honourees, distribution of certificates, and an inaugural parade. The Red Cross flag and official documents were also formally presented to the Provost, signaling the operational commencement of the unit.

Hon. AKORO also expressed appreciation to the officials of the Oyo State branch and Ibadan North-West Detachment of the Nigerian Red Cross Society for their support in making the inauguration a reality.

In a related development, the College successfully conducted the entrance examinations and oral interviews for the second batch of 2025/2026 academic session applicants. Hon. AKORO commended the Management for their commitment to a transparent and merit-based admission process.

In closing, Hon. AKORO reaffirmed the Governing Council’s full support for initiatives that promote student development and community service.

“As a Council, we will continue to support every effort that positions OYSCOHEST as a centre of excellence not only in health education but in character, leadership, and service to humanity,” he said.
