Impeachment Rumours: A Failed Script? Oyo PDP LG Chairmen Close Ranks Behind Makinde, Hail Unmatched Achievements

The Forum of Oyo State Local Government Chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly thrown its weight behind the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, dismissing in strong terms the alleged impeachment plot making rounds in some quarters.

The Forum, under the leadership of its Chairman of Chairmen, Chief Femi Falowo, described the claims as baseless, politically motivated, and a desperate attempt by detractors to create unnecessary tension in the state.

According to the Forum, since the creation of Oyo State in 1976, no administration has matched the all-round performance of Governor Makinde across critical sectors of governance.

The Chairmen emphasized that Makinde’s strides in infrastructure, economic development, youth engagement, women inclusion, job creation, wealth generation, and agricultural transformation remain unprecedented in the history of the state.

"It is only natural for a performing leader like His Excellency to attract opposition and criticism,” the Forum noted. “However, these distractions cannot overshadow the visible and verifiable achievements that the good people of Oyo State are already enjoying.”

The Forum further noted that the current administration is one that the people of Oyo State overwhelmingly desire to see continue beyond its lifespan, owing to its impactful and people-oriented governance. However, in respect of the constitutional provision limiting the tenure of a governor to two terms, the Forum stated that while Governor Makinde may not continue beyond 2027, his legacy must endure.

In light of this, the Forum declared not only its unflinching support for His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, but also its readiness to fully align with and support any candidate that may be presented by the party as his successor in the forthcoming 2027 Oyo State Gubernatorial Elections.

Reaffirming their loyalty, the Forum declared that both the party structure and the grassroots base of the PDP remain solidly behind Governor Makinde, stressing that the people of Oyo State are not swayed by unfounded political propaganda.

The Forum Secretary, Mr. Sikiru Idowu Jimoh, from Ogbomoso North Local Government, while addressing the issue, described the impeachment rumour as “a laughable fabrication with no legislative or constitutional backing.”

"There is no iota of truth in these claims. It is a clear case of political mischief aimed at distracting the government from its developmental agenda. The PDP at the grassroots remains united and resolute in support of Governor Makinde,” Jimoh stated.

Similarly, the Forum’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Akinlolu Oladeni Olugbade, from Ibarapa Central, condemned what he termed “the antics of a few disgruntled elements bent on disrupting the peace of Oyo State.”

"Oyo State is currently enjoying a rare atmosphere of peace and steady progress under Governor Makinde. Those attempting to stir crisis must desist, as their actions are not only self-serving but also anti-people,” Olugbade warned.

The Forum further called on all stakeholders, political actors, and residents of the state to disregard the impeachment rumours and continue to support the present administration in its efforts to deliver more dividends of democracy.

In conclusion, the PDP Local Government Chairmen urged those behind the alleged plot to abandon divisive tendencies and allow peace, stability, and development to continue to thrive across Oyo State.

"Oyo State belongs to all of us. We must collectively protect its peace and sustain the progress being recorded under this administration,” the Forum concluded.
