"You Can’t Impeach Progress!" - Oyo LG Vice Chairmen Knock ‘Desperate’ Plot Against Gov. Seyi Makinde || Cite Unmatched Record and Grassroots Legacy
The Forum of Oyo State Local Government Vice Chairmen has strongly rejected the alleged impeachment plot against the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as baseless, unfounded, and a calculated attempt to derail the steady progress being recorded across the state.
In a statement issued under the leadership of the Forum Chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Adigun (AATU) of Ibadan South West Local Government, the Vice Chairmen declared that Governor Makinde remains the most impactful and people-oriented leader the state has witnessed since its creation over 50 years ago.
The Forum maintained that any attempt to initiate or insinuate impeachment against such a performing governor is not only unjustifiable but also a direct affront to the collective will of the people of Oyo State.
"This so-called impeachment talk is nothing but a failed script by detractors who are uncomfortable with the unprecedented achievements of His Excellency,” the Forum stated. “Governor Seyi Makinde has raised the bar of governance in Oyo State, and the people are solidly behind him.”
Highlighting his achievements, the Vice Chairmen pointed to massive strides in infrastructure, economic development, youth engagement, women inclusion, job creation, wealth generation, and agricultural transformation; areas they noted have experienced remarkable growth under the Makinde administration.
Of particular significance, the Forum emphasized Governor Makinde’s historic commitment to grassroots democracy, noting that he is the first governor in Oyo State to conduct two consecutive local government elections, thereby restoring democratic governance at the grassroots level.
They further revealed that the administration is already on course to conduct a third consecutive local government election later this year, a move they described as a bold reinforcement of democratic values and institutional continuity.
"No administration before this has demonstrated such consistency in empowering the grassroots,” the statement continued. “By ensuring regular local government elections, Governor Makinde has brought governance closer to the people and strengthened democratic structures across all local councils.”
The Forum Chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Adigun (AATU), in his remarks, described the impeachment rumour as “an unfortunate distraction that holds no water in the face of undeniable performance.”
"You do not impeach excellence. You do not truncate progress. What we have in Governor Makinde is a leader who has consistently delivered for the people, from the urban centres to the most remote communities,” Adigun said.
Also speaking, Hon. Akeem Ayoade, Vice Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.
"There is no justification whatsoever for any impeachment process. This is clearly the handiwork of mischief-makers who are threatened by the Governor’s success. The people at the grassroots, whom we represent, are firmly with him,” Ayoade stated.
Similarly, Hon. Ibrahim "Simple" Oladebo, Vice Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, warned against any attempt to disrupt the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the state.
"Oyo State is witnessing peace, growth, and inclusive governance. Those trying to create tension through baseless impeachment rumours must desist. Their actions are against the interest of the people,” Oladebo said.
The Forum further noted that the current administration is one that the people of Oyo State overwhelmingly wish to see continue, owing to its impactful and people-centered policies. However, in line with the constitutional provision of a two-term limit, the Vice Chairmen stressed that while Governor Makinde may not continue beyond 2027, his legacy must be preserved.
In light of this, the Forum declared its unwavering support not only for Governor Seyi Makinde but also for the continuity of his developmental strides through any candidate that may be presented by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 Oyo State Gubernatorial Elections.
The Vice Chairmen concluded by urging all political actors and residents of the state to disregard the impeachment rumours and remain focused on supporting the ongoing developmental agenda of the Makinde administration.
Oyo State belongs to all of us. We must not allow baseless political distractions to derail the progress we are enjoying. The focus must remain on sustaining peace, unity, and development,” the Forum concluded.
